This year in America we heard the refrain “I’m with her”. Those who said it did not mean that they were riding shotgun in Hillary Clinton’s campaign bus. They meant I support her, I believe in her, I’m on her side.
The Bible says this about Jesus’s birth:
“The virgin will conceive a child!
She will give birth to a son,
and they will call him Immanuel,
which means ‘God is with us.'”
Often we think of “God is with us” as His physical presence, in the flesh, when Jesus became human like us and lived on earth. That reality, in and of itself, is extraordinary and worthy of consideration and awe. But “God is with us” means even more than that. He supports us. He believes in us. He’s on our side.
I like to think that God is wearing an “I’m with them” T-shirt. With that kind of support, any opposition is ultimately irrelevant. “With God on our side like this, how can we lose?” (Romans 8:31)
Good tidings of great joy, indeed.
